Upon high school graduation he enlisted in the US Navy graduating Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL training (BUDS) class 223. Nick has served at SEAL Teams One, Three and Seven in Coronado, CA. He has also served at Recruit Training Command Dive Motivator office in Great Lakes, Illinois and Naval Special Warfare Unit One, Guam. Currently, Nick is serving as Naval Special Warfare Coordinator for the St Louis Navy Recruiting District and enjoys his job passing on his knowledge to the future of Naval Special Warfare. During his last twenty years of service he has deployed to Iraq three times supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom and deployed once to Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Nick is currently residing in rural Secor IL and is married to Erin Miller. Nick and Erin have two children Brent, age 11, and Emma, age 8. In his early childhood Nick knew he wanted to serve his county in the armed services. It wasn’t until he was in middle school did he know he wanted to become a Navy SEAL. He wanted to become a SEAL because he was a competitive swimmer, scuba diver and enjoyed being around the water. Furthermore, he wanted to be part of Special Operations and to serve amongst the best of his nation. Becoming a SEAL was extremely challenging, suffering through countless hours of “surf torture” in cold water, enduring five days of Hell Week with little to no sleep, 5.5 nautical mile open ocean swims, 14-mile-long runs, swimming 50 meters under water on one breath, running 6 miles a day just to each breakfast/lunch/dinner and countless other grueling evolutions. Being a SEAL is humbling as every day you have to earn your trident as the famous SEAL motto goes: “The only easy day was yesterday”. |
